Daily Leaderboard

We just updated the Leaderboard so that it resets daily. This allows anyone to get into the caption game to get on the homepage whether you're a new user or a seasoned veteran. You will still maintain an overall score though, so don't worry about losing your points.

You'll see the change on the homepage, browse and on your profile page. Enjoy the challenge!

Oh, hello bookmarklet

To make creating contests even easier, we put together a Caption Blitz bookmarklet called "Blitz This!". Basically, you drag the bookmark, which is displayed on certain Caption Blitz pages, into your bookmarks bar for quick access. Then, when you're on your blog or website, you can click the Blitz This! bookmarklet to bring up a window to create your contest. Once your contest is created, you can easily share the short URL, post to Twitter, email or share on Facebook.

Here's a little video that shows the bookmarklet in action:

Let's go tagging

We just added the ability to add tags to a contest when you create it. Those tags show up throughout the site and can be clicked to see other contests based on a single tag. It's a great way to discover other contests that share similar subject matter as part of their images. Enjoy.

Contests. Made easier.

Since the beginning of Caption Blitz you've been able to start contests by uploading an image. Unfortunately, this can take time if you're using an image you may have uploaded to your blog or other website. Well, things just got a little faster. You can now start a contest with a URL to an image. Give it a shot.

As always, we made some more tweaks based on user feedback and added more info on a single caption page. Hopefully these additions will make browsing Caption Blitz even more fun.

Follow Stream

We recently added new feature on Caption Blitz that makes it easy to keep up with the people and contests you're following. Now, when you log in you'll be taken directly to your "Follow Stream" (working name). This area is divided into 2 categories; captions and contests. The captions area shows you a stream of captions from users you're following and contest you're following. The contest area is a stream of contests from users you're following. You can access this area on your profile page in the left-hand navigation.

We're hoping this feature will help people cut through the noise to see content that they're most interested. We have some more ideas for cutting though the noise that may have to come in more future releases.

More Profile Options

You can now add a bio, website URL and location to your profile. You can make these changes on the settings page and it will show up on your user profile page.

We're also making progress on other features to help round out the experience. We made tweaks to get Caption Blitz looking better in other browser versions (excluding IE6), adding paging to areas with a lot of content, etc.

Singled Out

We heard some feedback that people would like it to be easier to share one specific caption. So... captions now have there own unique URLs that show the contest image, the caption and ways to share that caption with other people. You can also "Like" a caption if you're logged in. Check it out:

Of course, captions will also remain fully intact in the contest they came from displayed next to other submitted captions. But, you can always get to the single caption page URL by clicking the date that the caption was posted. Also, sharing a caption from a contest page will use the single caption page URL. Hopefully this feature makes it easier for people to share a single caption without people having to sort through a slew of other ones.

Track This, Follow That

We just updated Caption Blitz with another big component for fun. You can now track contests and follow friends on the site.

What does that mean? As you find contests you like, you can track them from the contest page. All captions posted to contests you like can be accessed on your user page. It makes it really easy to see only the contests you're interested in. And, if you want to add your own caption it's really easy to jump to that contest page.

As for following friends, it works similarly to tracking a contest, but for people you're interested in. You can go to a person's user page and click the follow button. Doing that will display any captions and contest that person creates. That stream of information is displayed on your user page under "Following".

In addition, there is an avatar cloud that displays the avatars of people you're following and how many people are following you. All in all it's a great feature for you to narrow down all Caption Blitz users to only the content you're interested in.

Short URL & Delete Contests

We just recently did a deploy that changed/updated a couple things. First, we switched the short URL that's used to share contests and captions to bltz.it. Not only is it shorter, but it has more character. That is, more character with lest characters.

The other thing we did is add the ability to delete contests that you've created. This was on our to-do list, but we bumped the feature to the top of the pile based on feedback.

Follow the Leader

We're making progress on making Caption Blitz a bit more game-like. A leaderboard has been implemented on the homepage as well as under the browse navigation. We've also made the focus of the primary navigation more about finding and creating contests as well as promoting great captioners.

The featured contest on the homepage has also evolved to be more dynamic, again, allowing for more promotional opportunities for those who start great contests and captions. There are other ideas we have for promoting the funniest captions and contests as well as the people who create them. We hope to implement those soon.
